Savory Homemade Croutons

I love croutons in a salad. Especially, when the croutons soften slightly on the outside, leaving a satisfying crunch in the middle.
If done properly the croutons can not only enhance the salad from whatever the flavor of the croutons are, but also take on the flavor of the dressing.
Making croutons are easy. You can control the amount of salt and preservatives, making a delicious and healthy crouton, and if kept in a resealable plastic bag can last up to a month.
It’s easy to customize the flavor, as well, simply by adding whatever seasonings you like and have on hand. Here is an easy recipe to get you started.
1 baguette
3 tablespoons of good quality olive oil
course salt and ground pepper to taste
Garlic powder to taste
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, add spices to olive oil. I used appx. ½ tsp. each.
Meanwhile cube bread into 3/4-inch cubes – or crouton size (about 4 cups)
Toss lightly with oil/spice mixture.
Spread evenly on a baking sheet.
Bake until golden brown, tossing halfway through, 15 to 20 minutes.
